Photography Storage Planning Guide
Storage needs vary dramatically by shooting style. A landscape photographer shooting RAW uses far more storage per shoot than a casual photographer shooting JPEG.
Recommended Storage by Photography Type
- Casual/travel photographer: 64-128 GB per day, 1-2 TB archive drive
- Wedding photographer: 256 GB+ per event (always dual card slots), 4-8 TB archive
- Sports/wildlife photographer: 128-256 GB per session (burst shooting fills cards fast)
- Studio photographer: 64-128 GB per session, cloud backup + local RAID
- Backup rule: Always use the 3-2-1 rule — 3 copies, 2 local, 1 offsite
